How bulletproof
is an AirRanger
aluminum hull?
Look at the results of the test

There has been more than one instance of a hunter accidentally discharging his rifle and sinking his boat.

While this unlikely event is hardly anything to loose sleep over, it is reassuring to know that a chance encounter with an underwater hazard will have an equally difficult time causing any real damage.

In the words of one owner who had owned several brands of airboats, "The AirRanger is built like a tank!"

If you are out on the water, this would be a typical view you would have of the new Air Ranger.

A stock Air Ranger still holds the land speed record for airboats.  We no longer hold the water speed record - that record was broken by boats designed solely for speed and is now over 120 mph.  Our overland speed record was set in a stock 3 seat AirRanger. We build rugged work and sport boats and go anywhere amphibious limousines.  Speed is only one of our design considerations.

This roomy 8 ft. x 20 ft. (actually 22 ft. + with the rake) boat can provide comfortable seating for 6 plus over l000 lbs. of gear.  It not only gets you safely through the shallow water in can move with equal ease over dry land.  The fact that we still hold the overland speed record means that we know how to extract the maximum in all terrain performance.

If a 45 fired at close range cannot penetrate an AirRanger hull, it is unlikely that any other object that you might hit will render the hull un-seaworthy.

Hitting a rock, or something equally hard, even at high speed, is unlikely to make more than a dimple in the tough aluminum skin of an AirRanger.

The alloy used exclusively by American Airboats is specified in Navy contracts because it is the strongest aluminum produced.  It is twice as strong and durable as some other popular alloys used in boat building.  It also costs about twice as much but it is worth it in the long run.

American Airboats are designed for a 20 year life so we are not going to take any short cuts that would compromise durability.

If you calculate the lifetime cost of an AirRanger it will be lower than competitive airboats.  This is the value that matters.  We go out of our way to minimize any possibility for breakdown or significant damage in normal operation.

The AirRanger is the value leader for high performance, low maintenance, all terrain vehicles.  AirRangers may cost a little more because you get quite a bit more in the way of performance and durability.

The old design had been recognized as an industry leader.  The new design is better in every respect.

  • Lighter,
  • Stronger and more durable
  • Improved rigidity, less flex
  • Quicker to plane,
  • More secure in the turns.

Some of the features that lead to outstanding performance and long term satisfaction:

  • 502 cu. in. Chevy engine
  • dyno rated at over 500 h.p.
  • Aluminum heads
  • Stainless steel headers
  • reduction drive
  • 4 blade composite prop
  • Highest Quality Materials
  • highest grade marine aluminum alloy .5860
  • Highest Quality corrosion
  • resistant components
  • Over engineered for the

  •   ultimate in rugged
      dependability
  • 2 side brakes
  • 4 in mid ship brace
  • 7 bottom stiffeners

  • Over 35+ years experience went into our latest hull design.  The hull is so rigid and durable that American can extend the best warranty in the industry.  The trick is to combine the rugged durability with performance.  The latest AR design meets this challenge.
